The Rodarte shoes worn with the SS16 collection at New York Fashion week on Tuesday morning were glistening with gold and silver stripes in embossed leather suede. These elements though did not overshadow the romantic black and white lace garments but paired well with dangling gold earrings and statement hair pieces.
Whether ankle boots shown above or Mary Janes, there seems to be a recurring theme this season of a 70’s resurrection!
A mix of metallic, lace and black hosiery feels a bit vintage retro (because yes… the 70’s is vintage now as far as I am concerned!). Ankle strap Mary Janes tend to veer more towards the conservative end of the spectrum but Rodarte’s gold and silver metallic take on Mary Janes by designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy are edgy and somewhat futuristic with a curved heel and small platform. Mary Janes are no longer confined to the schoolgirl uniform. From Miu Miu’s pointy toe glitter pump Mary Janes to Stuart Weitzman’s gold studded suede version, mary janes can be classic but have also evolved to suit the season or aesthetic of a collection! Autumn or Spring, they just work.
While the shoes are mainly accessories in their own right, they are fun while still wearable. The shoes are definitely essential to the overall ensemble. Meant to be noticed and to stand alone. These boots are a wishlist item for sure! Only meant for certain occasions but that’s the point!
The shoes send the message to enjoy the night! Live a little.
