As a prelude to chic suede cap toe pumps featured in my previous post, above are the Vince Camuto Signature Priscila pumps I chose for fall. While the bright port suede was tempting and vibrant, I chose black. I felt I simply could not go wrong as they are a classic but eye catching heel for day or evening.  Although platform pumps do tend to be more comfortable, these Vince Camuto pointed toe pumps are actually quite comfortable and pointed toes have surely returned. There is something elegant and timeless about the pointed toe and narrow stem that is more formal and feminine. The mary jane strap and moderate stem at 4″ are somewhat forgiving.

A soft texture that pairs well with silk or lace for a warmer touch in the upcoming months, as luxurious as suede shoes can be, you must always apply a suede protector spray before wearing. Do not even wear them outside for an hour.

As in the photo below, I have often used the same protectant spray that is sold to protect UGGS. I am sure other suede protectant sprays are just as well but this has worked for me. Before applying the spray, it is a good idea to use the soft brush to remove any dust and even out the surface gently. It is sufficient to wait 24 – 48 hours for the protectant to dry. It will look wet at first but the change in color from the spray will go away after the material has dried as long as you do not spray too much. Be thorough but spray from a distance so not saturating the fabric. Also, for minor imperfections, the suede eraser is a great tool. I believe I bought that eraser 7 years ago or more at Nordstrom and have used it on numerous occasions when needed for various suede shoes in different colors. You can always get an extra brush at the shoe repair shop.

While it is not smart to wear suede heels on a rainy day, a proper protectant should help from minor water contact. Also, the delicate nature of suede in comparison to patent leather or soft leather does require attention and while they are not meant to be worn “every day” each pair is special. It is worth it to spend the 5 minutes or less to protect those shoes you adore.
